Call for Abstracts
13th Northeastern Alpine Stewardship Gathering
October 25-27, 2024
Hosted by the Appalachian Mountain Club @ The Highland Center in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.
The Waterman Fund is now accepting abstracts for oral and poster presentations on topics of plant and animal ecology, wilderness management, and outdoor recreation and stewardship in and among alpine areas of the northeastern United States and Canada. We also welcome proposals that range anywhere from highlighting opportunities for large-landscape conservation in the region to those that use the arts to foster a “spirit of wildness.”
Topics include (but are not limited to):
- Alpine research
- Sustainable trail work
- Mitigating recreational impacts/ Leave No Trace
- Education + Stewardship
- Landscape-scale conservation
- Concepts of Wild(er)ness
- History and interpretation
For each submission (multiple submissions considered) please include:
- Abstract (400 words or less)
- Contact information: name, address, phone number, email, affiliation(s)
- Proposed format of your presentation (oral presentation, panel, or poster)

The Northeastern Alpine Stewardship Gathering is an opportunity for alpine researchers, planners, managers, stewards, artists, and interested parties to gather, share, and improve the understanding of the mountainous alpine areas in the Northeast United States, and to collaborate on their behalf.
