2nd Annual Waterman Fund field trip

Fifteen Waterman Fund supporters and Board members converged on Mount Washington for the second annual Waterman Fund Field trip on July 25. The group stopped midway to hike into the Alpine Garden, examining fragile alpine flora under the guidance of Board Member Jean Hoekwater and long-time supporter Iris Baird. Shortly we ascended into the clouds, for a tour of the Observatory’s new exhibit “Extreme Mount Washington “ and a closer look at the new exhibit supported by the Waterman Fund. An Observatory summer intern gave us a top-to-bottom tour behind the scenes, introducing us to Marty the cat, the complex instrumentation, and the topmost observation tower. The mountain itself provided an exciting day with weather ranging from bright sunshine in the valley to wild winds and white-out on the summit—a perfect Mt. Washington experience!
