Reminder: Deadline for grant applications is December 15, 2014!
Each year, the fund awards grants between $1,000 and $7,000 per alpine project. About $15,000 will be available in 2014 for projects in the Northeastern U.S. and Canada. In 2013, the Fund awarded over $12,000 for five alpine projects, including research on snowbed communities, bryophytes and lichens on Mount Washington; education and stewardship of the Welch Ledges in New Hampshire by the Rey Center; stewardship exhibits in the Mount Washington Museum; a caretaker-educator for the Maine Appalachian Trail Club in the Bigelow Range in Maine; and support for the 8th Alpine Stewardship Gathering hosted by Antioch University and its Monadnock Ecological Research and Education Program. Since 2002, the Fund has awarded 43 alpine stewardship grants totaling more than $115,000 and seven prizes totaling $8500 to the winners of its annual essay contest.
Please note that we have changed our grant guidelines to include updates to eligibility criteria and project deliverables. Research proposals must address how research will further future alpine stewardship and management.
