2012 Alpine Essay Contest Winners Announced
We’re so pleased to announce our Fifth Annual Alpine Essay Contest Winners!
Katherine Dykstra, of Brooklyn, NY, gets first prize for “A Place for Everything,” which takes on the issue of what “wild” means through a novice camper’s encounter with a bear.
Second place goes to Angela Zukowski, from West Springfield, MA, for her essay “Wilderness” which explores what unexpected personal growth can occur when we use wilderness as a testing ground.
Dykstra’s piece will appear in December’s Appalachia Journal, and both essays can be read on our website and in our annual newsletter this winter.
We’re immensely grateful to all folks who submitted – we had our largest pool of essays yet. Thank you!
